York Business Awards

I am very pleased to be able to say that Herbert Todd & Son have managed to make it to the finalist stage of the prestigious York Business Awards. This is the first time we have been nominated and though filling out application forms is not one of my favourite pursuits it allowed me to reflect on all that we have accomplished over the last year and highlighted that if you are not driving forward in the current economic climate you are in grave danger of not just standing still but falling well behind.

Changes we make are all for the single purpose of making the customer experience better because ultimately without new and returning customers there would be no Herbert Todd’s! So what have we been up to?

The internet now plays a huge role in most of our lives, whether it be the kids digging away on Minecraft (don’t ask!) or hours lost to Twitbook we are all part of the revolution of the world wide web. Internet shopping has made it easier than ever before to research, browse and buy from the comfort of our own homes but in the electrical industry the majority of sales are still made face to face. We have made sure our website is easy to use and full of facts and figures to assist customers researching our products but ultimately we know you want to touch and feel these products before you can make a proper decision. With this in mind we have also gone to great lengths to improve all our showrooms with specialist display areas for things like 4K Ultra High Definition television, induction cooking, built in appliances and range cookers.

A continual calendar of staff training ensures you can always get the best advice across all brands, something which really sets us apart from other electrical retailers. Finally, investment in delivery technicians and vehicles ensures that our free delivery and installation pledge on most products guarantees the best possible customer experience.

Now we’re just keeping our fingers crossed for awards tonight!

Harrogate Store gets new Range Cooking Centre

With range cookers flying off the shelves just now we have taken the move to create a new room dedicated to range cookers at our Harrogate store.

The room will be home to over 20 different range cookers with matching cooker hoods and splash-backs so that you can really get a feel for the products available.

We have worked with the best manufacturers in the industry to produce a space that is bright and spacious but with plenty to look at and play with.


In just over a month we have taken an unused room at the back of the store...
                  ... and given it a new lease of life!

Below you can see it painted out ready for the shop fitters from GDHA, Britannia and Rangemaster to do their work.


Whether you are ready to buy or would just like some inspiration please drop by and have a look. We now have one of the largest collections of range cookers in the north and have all the different sizes, colours and fuel types for you to look at.

We also have working induction range cookers by Rangemaster and Stoves so that you can have a go at using this revolutionary fuel type and see why it's taking over.

Can cook Will cook! St Olave's School home economics department gets an overhaul..

Pupils at St. Olave's School had something to look forward too with the start of the new school year as the project to refurbish the home economics department was delivered on time by Herbert Todd's and CHR who managed the project.

As an old boy of the school I was very keen to be involved and the equipment was all provided at a very keen price. The kitchen features 10 pupil work stations and a demonstration station for teachers to use.

The multi-function electric ovens and electric induction hobs are all by Bosch and should provide years of trouble free cooking to inspire a new generation of Chefs.






As an added bonus for the school we provided a gift of eleven sets of pans to work with the new hobs.

Job done!

Summer Viewing Television Promotion

Congratulations to the winner of our fantastic "Summer Viewing" competition.

Every customer purchasing a TV from us over the summer was entered into a FREE prize draw to win a SMEG 50's style retro fridge worth £899 with the extra bonus that it would be full of beer!

The lucky winner was picked at random on the 12th of August and it was Mr Brown of Acomb and here he is collecting his prize - pictured next to our Sony 4K LED cinema demonstration area in Acomb...

Great Yorkshire Show 2014

Eee by gum, didn't we have a lovely time...

It was great to see so many friends, clients and potential clients at the North's finest agricultural show. Herbert Todd's were again showcasing Rangemaster range cookers, Panasonic 4K television and Sonos wireless surround sound.

We also had Nespresso coffee machines on the go with free coffee for all (the same stuff George Clooney drinks!) and in-ceiling speakers by Canton paired up with a Sonos AMP for the perfect discreet bedroom and en-suite solution, no wires just great sound!

There was a chance to win an Archos tablet and demo's of curved screen LED complete with curved Off the Wall stand to match, Flexxon brackets for Sonos and Sebo's famously indestructible vacuum cleaners.

We had a fantastic time in the sunshine (and driving rain!) and our position near the Black Sheep beer tent meant there was never a dull moment! Thank you to Sebo and Rangemaster for your support with this event.

Living North Lifestyle Show - York Racecourse

For three days we brought our mix of very loud cinema demonstrations (sorry again to the guys on the stand next door!) courtesy of Sonos/ Sony 4K and more subtle demonstrations of inductioncookers courtesy of Rangemaster.  

Sonos sent us two chaps to assist with demonstration of their latest piece of kit - the PLAYBAR and it went down a storm. As part of a wireless surround sound system with their SUB and PLAY 1's the result was nothing short of earth moving and some great sales over the course of the event meant we knew the show-goers liked it too!

This was the first time the event has been run in York and it was a great success. We will be back in March 2015 with a bigger and better stand. Please let us know if you would like to be invited...

Panasonic product launch 2014 - Amsterdam

Herbert Todd's were fortunate to be invited to Panasonic's launch event reserved for their preferred  independent partners.

On show were some of the finest ultra high definition or UHD 4K LED televisions we have seen.

Demonstrators were on hand to make sure all our questions were answered and it was reassuring to see that the overall quality on show was just what you would expect of this well respected manufacturer.

Key technologies for this year included the usual picture tweaks but with the demise of Plasma we were keen to see how their latest LED panels measured up in terms of levels of black and contrast.

The results were good but for us still not quite that of their outgoing award winning plasma. The addition of Freetime services to most of the Pansonic range will make it easier than ever for customers to find and watch on-line content such as BBC iPlayer, Youtube and Netflix.

In response  to the curvy LED screens available from other manufacturers like Samsung and LG the guys at Panasonic were keen to point out they can do it too but the question remains - why? Answers on a postcard please...

Also on show were some great sound solutions to make your telly sound as good as it looks and a multi-room sound system to rival Sonos. Please call in for a demo soon!

York Lifestyle Event 2014 - a great day for all!

As the dust settles on the 2014 exhibition I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who visited and made the event such a vibrant affair.

It was great to see how amazed everyone* was with the Sony 4K Ultra High Definition TV. At 4 times the definition of current HD technology the picture was so stunning it literally stopped people in their tracks. The images of Brazilian football action where vibrant and stunning and the images from African Safari really showcased the incredible colour and detail possible with this new technology.

Here's a picture of the stand we set up which, as well as the 4K TV, featured the latest in range cooker technology with a Rangemaster 110cm Induction cooker.

STOP THE PRESS. 11.2.14 Herbert Todd's deliver and install their first 4K TV to one lucky customer in York. We really  hope you enjoy it!

A big thank you to Julian Sturdy MP for opening the show which such aplomb. I think he enjoyed the TV demo almost as much as sharing the amazing sofa (provided by Fabric Gallery and Interiors of Dunnington) with Imogen of Deans Garden Centre.
